Up Dates…

I’ve been pretty lethargic in the blogging department lately. It might seem as if I have completely abandoned my blogs, which is not the case by the way (well, this is a part-proof!). I felt I must post something today because:

  1. I just upgraded my WordPress installation to the latest version - I would say good reason as any to post a new entry (to check if things still work as they used to :) ).
  2. I haven’t written anything (except e-mails) for over two weeks!
  3. Life’s not without incidents here in Ghana to have nothing to say here (if I wanted to that is!)
  4. Oh, this should have come up first when I think of it now - that I had to extend my stay in Ghana by over a month because I realised (in time) that I couldn’t have finished my fieldwork as planned previously! Now I’m going back to the UK in mid-October instead.

poudyal.org facelift…

Here’s a screengrab of the new homepage for poudyal.org/.com. Decided to remove text altogether - with clickable regions on the image itself. The image below is from my flickr, you can CLICK HERE for my homepage.

moving…moving…moved…

I recently decided not to renew my current hosting plan and move to a new server instead. Giving myself ample time to do so, I’ve moved both my blogs to the new server already, and have used poudyal.ORG as my domain instead of the current poudyal.COM domain. I won’t be updating my blogs at poudyal.COM anymore. Actually, you should be reading this at mahesh.poudyal.ORG anyway, for I have set up redirection from mahesh.poudyal.COM to here. Anyway, those of you who read using rss readers might have to change the feed address to reflect the change in domain name.

The reason for this unexpected change is that my current hosting plan runs out in a couple of months’ time, but I’m going to Ghana early next month (more details to follow soon!). So, I decided to make the move right away rather than wait till the current plan expires.

Anyway, I hope this doesn’t cause too much inconvenience for too many people.

Posted with ecto…

After I had upgraded my WordPress installation to WP 2.1 “Ella”, I have had problems retrieving entry categories with my ecto. When trying to refresh the blog entries, the program would just hang up. After searching on the WordPress and ecto forums, I found the solution straight away. However, being a novice on php stuffs, I didn’t want to take the risk editing xmlrpc.php file right away and waited a few more days till others tested the patch. I wasn’t posting much anyway, so just managed from the WP Admin for the last few posts. Today I decided to implement the patch myself, and now my ecto works just fine with WP 2.1….and this is the proof!

The Facelift…

After spending nearly a whole day tweaking the CSS, the Header, and the Footer on the original K2 style, I have come up with this new-look random jottings…. Its quite a significant facelift compared to what I had before. From a three column theme, I have opted back to two column style. I hope you find it visually pleasing than my old theme, and also easy to navigate around. Would love to hear your comments as to where I can improve on this theme and how to make it even better to the eyes!

As for the theme, I have decided to stick with K2 theme for now - for a number of reasons. First, you can create as many visual styles as you want and stick those in style folder under the K2 theme folder. You can then choose the one you want by just going to the K2 Option page in the admin area. K2 supports widgets very nicely, so its easy to arrange/rearrange stuffs on the sidebar. It has some cool AJAX features, some of which I haven’t even tried to use yet, such as the live archives. So, there is room to do more with this theme.

And, now I have my own visual style for K2…how cool is that?…and I have called it Plain RJ 0.1.
